CHIPPENDALE CHERRY FOUR DRAWER CHEST
PENN.
Circa.1780 -1800
The serene character of this chest of drawers exemplifies the standards of Pennsylvania Cabinetmakers. The top has a applied molding that projects gently over the front and sides with overhang on back for chair rail. The facade has four graduated drawers with thumbnail edges and original bail brasses. Drawer fronts are a figured cherry having a most interesting grain reserved for the faces. Between each drawer is a full depth dust-board. Flanked on facing corners are fluted and turned columns, capitals and footers. The case terminates to a conforming molded edge above four well developed original ogee bracket feet with shaped knee returns.
