QUEEN ANNE transition to CHIPPENDALE HIGHBOY

Connecticut (probably Wethersfield)

Circa 1760 – 1780

The Highboy is a classic expression of rural Connecticut craftsmanship. Refurbished in the 1970’s, this original Highboy is in a fine state of preservation. It has a well formed fan in the lower case section. A wonderful silhouette is formed by its beautiful apron, with scallops of equal height flanked by spurs. This undulating skirt gathers around to the sides. All is lifted on modeled cabriole legs having pointed knees that taper down to slender ankles ending in large platformed pad feet. Adding to the Highboy’s charming presence is a dry mellow warm surface. This striking example, illustrates the vitality of regional characteristics as well as unparalleled grace and proportion sometimes achieved in rural cabinetry. The refined proportional scheme and careful craftsmanship, indicates that this Highboy is the product of a very competent cabinetmaker. It is our pleasure to offer this Fine Quality Queen Anne Highboy.
