PATRIOTIC FOUR BLOCK EAGLE APPLIQUE QUILT
Lehigh County, Pennsylvania
Circa: 1880 – 1890
This applique and bordered quilt design has four spread eagles and a center medallion. Eagles are holding olive branch in their beaks. This was a popular design in the last quarter of the 19th century, especially in penn. Where several have been identified. The patriotic pattern was undoubtedly popularized by the 1876 Centennial of America’s Independence as well as the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition.
Color: Red, Green and Cheddar
May not have been washed.
Some fading of the green. Age appropriate staining.
