MONUMENTAL SPREAD WING EAGLE WEATHERVANE
Found in New Hampshire
Circa: 1880’s
The eagle weathervane was typically used as an architectural ornament at the highest point of a building as a instrument for showing the direction of the wind. This full bodied outstretched winged eagle weathervane is perched on a circular sphere as if frozen in the moment of ascension above a arrow. Its form and proportions are showing good detailing to the body and wings.
The molded three dimensional hollow copper body is in good condition. It has a fine natural undisturbed patina with outstretched zinc talons grasping a sphere.
This eagle is a typical nineteenth century interpretation of our national emblem. This great bird, America’s symbol of Freedom, would be a Fine Addition to any ones Folk Art Collection.
