AMERICAN GAME / CARD TABLE
New York City
Circa 1829 -1835
A serene, powerful and handsome card table made in NYC, this card table presents itself as a very sophisticated design for its period. The table is a ubiquitous symbol of a new fashion with its bold scroll supports. The veneered top is not only a matching flame mahogany but has a rosewood edging and banding around. Top is a fold-over with rounded corners above a finely mahogany veneered apron. Interior storage of swivel top maintains its original wallpaper interior. All is raised on a pedestal connected to a raised plinth with scrolled legs all embellished with luxurious grained mahogany veneers that are stunningly arrayed. This game /card Table is obviously made by a superior cabinet shop. Its sophistication is evident throughout and links itself with other fine quality examples.
