FOLK ART AFRO – AMERICIAN WOODEN CARVED HEAD
Circa 1920 – 40
Found in Iowa, a extremely powerful and moving American Folk Art Wooden Carved Head, depicting an Afro-American Man, with racially exaggerated facial features wearing a bow tie. The exact nature of this carving is not known. It was probably from a Circus or Carnival as a knock down fixture. This distinctive artifact is a fine example representing early “Black Americana”, as well as, Circus or Carnival Memorabilia translated into the realm of Americian Folk Art within a sculpture. Original painted decoration – Contemporary mount
