August Kaufhold (1884-1955)
Circa First Half 20th Century

A  picturesque view. The interaction of light and shadow and the hazy blue background blurred in the distance showed the skill of this artist as show in his early impressionist paintings.

Biographical Summary

On 11 April 1884 as the son of an innkeeper couple, born in Breman.  1902-03 Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden. Studies with Prof. Johannes Raphael Wehle (1848-1936) and Professor Hermann Freye (1844-1921). 1904-08 Academy of Fine Arts Munich. Age 21, two years master of professor Heinrich von Reins (1850-1941). During the years of study first summer trips to Dotlingen. 1908 moved to Dotlingen. August Kaufhold built his first house in the gold.In 1910 he sold his possessions and settled on “Inlop” below the Petersberg build a new artist retreat.  1925, his first house burned down along with a valuable library and valuable rustic furniture. Most of his works are also burned. Then came the construction of the body itself to what it called “Lopshof”. 1936 Kaufhold drew his forth house on the 15th day Karkbak.  In 1937, the “Lopshof” sold to the Gauamt for educators of the National Socialist German Teachers Association. 1943 death of August purchased Holds first wife Marie (Marietta). 1943 Second marriage to Charlotte. 1944 – 15th April birth of son Enno in Wildeshausen. 1955 – June 6 died.
