RARE  STONEWARE  DECORATED  MUG

Circa 1860

A rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cylindrical Mug, decorated on one side with a large Sheaves of Wheat flanked by single sprig. A rare form with a cobalt decoration. In very good condition, from a 30 year collection in New York State. With this unusual decoration the potter was possibly reflecting, a good harvest, fertility and a closeness to the earth and her resources.
