FRISIAN WOODEN CARVED FOOT WARMER

Circa 1780-1820

A Wonderful old Dutch Frisian chip-carved Foot Warmer. This beautifully carved wooden box served a very specific purpose. The foot warmer opens on one side, with carved holes at the top. Inside is a metal container for burning charcoal embers. The hot embers produce heat that radiates from the box. The owners feet were positioned on top to become warm. By putting a blanket or clothing on the legs the heat could be insulated and the lower legs were heated. The brass carrying handle allowed it to be portable.

In beautiful original condition with a very nice old patina.
