COW WEATHERVANE
New England
Late 19th Century

This atypical American Cow Weathervane in a desirable reduced size has wonderful form and dimensional quality. Its 19th century maker has not been identified. The unusual shaped body is made of molded and hammered copper with cast zinc horns.

( The zine horns provide a counter balance to move vane direction correctly with the wind )
Over-all this vane is in very fine condition with no restorations. Verdigris and its original gold leaf surface is showing through the painted old silver second surface

This wonderful reduced scale and good proportioned Cow Weathervane is replicating the exuberantly contrived Folk Portraiture of a farm animal.

Height: 13″ – Length: 24″

Inventory: A-F 3626
