BLACK JOE JACKSON – FOLK PAINTING FAT CAT
Georgia
20th Century
Black Joe Jackson (1922-1997) is a Afro-American Self-taught Folk Artist from Georgia, born in 1920. His art works are reminiscent of life in the black South, a half a century ago. He was a memory painter creating works that are truly fresh and honest. Jackson’s talent and original creativeness all express memorable and imagined events as he raised his family. Art works were usually painted on found scrape wood. Jackson was born dyslexic as evidenced by his lettering. A fine example of 20th century folk art, naive in execution, joyous in nature and radiant with color.
