PAINT DECORATED GAMEBOARD
New York
Circa 1880-1900
The artist was probably a coach or sign painter by trade, using the central black and white game board as the most significant characteristic in the composition. The use of pin striping was a important stylistic feature adding sharp linear outlines around each element. The symmetrical corner blocks tie the total composition together. Each block exhibits a different decorative technique.
Watercolor and gouache on paper under glass within its original painted frame having a reeded decoration.
