FRANK TIBBITTS – PORTRAIT of YOUNG GIRL
This oil on canvas painting is of a young African American girl by well known photographer Frank Tibbitts. This piece is signed and dated by the artist; which was executed in 1948.
Frank Tibbitts (b. 1900) was a artist, photographer, set designer, commercial print maker and renaissance man of the theater. He studied art at Ohio State University under James Hopkins and Robert Chadeayne both well listed artist. He also was a graduate of the Columbus Art School and the New York Art League. He was a member of the world famous Pen and Pencil Club and the Columbus Art League. He has been featured in over 100 newspaper articles and part of countless exhibitions. He owned a commercial print shop where he produced movie lobby posters and play bills. He was the photographer for the Ohio Theater and would take photographs of all the stars included in the various productions.
