AMERICAN HORSE WEATHERVANE
Possibly Harris & Son Co., Boston
Late 19th Century
A classic full bodied trotting horse weathervane that is constructed of molded copper with zinc ears. The horse shown is in a trot with a flying mane and tail, a very satisfying form. Good estate “as found” condition with a few old repairs, gilt, yellow sizing and verdigris surfaces. There is a extraordinary amount of the gold leaf intact. The condition, patina, and originality of this handsome 19th century weathervane was made by one of the premier manufacturers of its day. A fine example that transcends American folk art into a piece of charming sculpture for any interior.
