LARGE ROOSTER WEATHERVANE
New York or New England
Circa 1875 – 1890

American late 19th century molded full-bodied copper rooster weathervane with sheet copper tail. The classic form is over scale and quite substantial, measuring 32 3/4″ high. There is a fine attractively original weathered gilt and patinated surface having traces of red paint on comb and wattle.

The rooster is a classic. It has very satisfying form and proportions with wonderfully delineated lines. There is fine overall attention to the molded detail on the body and tail. The rooster has a wonderful presence and visual impact. This Fine Quality Large Rooster Weathervane is a wonderful example of American folk art.
