FEDERAL CHAMBER / DRESSING TABLE
Probably Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Circa 1805-1820

In the Federal Period cabinet shops sometimes made specialized tables for the convenience of a lady or gentleman. Shown is a fine table with a elliptic front mahogany top having a slight overhang. Below is a conforming mahogany skirt flanked by vertical panels and centered with a drawer. The table top is graced with a dressing box having a drawer. Each drawer has a central oval panel of figured maple giving a handsome effect that is characteristic, both in contrast and arrangement. All is lifted by turned and tapering reeded legs. The table’s federal design stands in refurbished condition with its striking rich woods, distinctive inlay & delicate legs making it a fine example of graceful simplicity.

This extremely fine Chamber / Dressing Table stands as a notable statement of art which would enhance any collection.
