RARE THREE-TIER 12 BRANCH CHANDELIER
New England
Circa 1810-1830

This Original Rare Three-Tier Chandelier features 12 lighting branches. There are three rows of four embossed branches each lifting a drip pan. The branches are in a graduated cabriole pattern extending inwards from their crimped drip pans to the central body. Within the drip pans are a candle socket with folded ends and ejection slots. The top of the body has a hanging iron hook. Its slightly tapering central body has embossed concentric ring below two rows of the lighting branches and then terminates downward to a crimped pan base. Under each of the lighting branches attached to the body, are 12 echoing crimped reflector pans. The Tinsmiths design has used the pans not only as a functional part but also as a ornamental feature. The Chandeliers style, scale and proportion are excellent.

While some tin chandeliers were made for residential use, the majority of these were made for public places. The Tinsmith and chandelier’s origin are unknown.

Most examples of Period Chandeliers can only be found in Museums. There are few Period Chandeliers that have survived over the past 200 years. We are pleased to be able to offer this fine remarkable survivor. This Rare New England Chandelier would be a wonderful addition to anyone’s Americana Collection.
