CLASSICAL CARD TABLE
Philadelphia
Attributed to: Henry Connelly (1770-1826)
Circa 1810 – 1820

This table is closely related to a drop leaf breakfast table P2816 in AMERICAN ANTIQUES – ISRAEL SACK COLLECTION – Vol. IV. It is attributed to Henry Connelly, a cabinetmaker in Philadelphia. The skillful refinement of design of this professional refurbished table shows the cabinetmakers serious interpretation of the American Classical Period. A turned and acanthus carved central column are below a cut-corner top of dense mahogany which is supported on a platformed base that is crisply carved on all four sides. The bases top surface and ring collar also has rich acanthus carving conforming with its column. Lifting and supporting the table are four out splayed legs with carved acanthus panels on its knees. Each down swept leg terminates to brass paw feet on castors.

All the above complete the Classicism and combine to qualify this Fine Quality card Table as an elegant and successful example.
