Neil Dunnigan is known for fine painting in oil, watercolor and acrylics, woodcuts, collage and commercial art. He was a resident of Brown County, Indiana from 1962 until his death in 1997. He was born in Lansing, Michigan. From 1943 to 1945, served in World War II. He married Lillian Raney, who also became an artist. The couple, had a son and daughter and maintained a studio in the Village Green Building at Town Hill Road, and taught art lessons to persons in the community.
Neil Dunnigan trained in Chicago at the Professional School of Art, and then worked as a commercial artist at Goldblatt’s in Chicago, followed by employment at Famous and Barr in St. Louis and L.S. Ayers in Indianapolis.
Dunnigan was a member and former president of the Brown County Art Guild and Indiana Artist Club. He was a founder and first president of Indiana Heritage Arts. Other memberships were watercolor societies of Indiana and Kentucky and the Hoosier Salon where in 1961, he won best of show. He also received awards from the Indianapolis Art League.
Exhibitions included the Indiana State Fair, Mid States Exhibition in Evansville, Indiana Realists, Art for Religion in Indianapolis and St. Louis Museum in Missouri.
