RARE PAINTED QUEEN ANNE TEA TABLE
Connecticut
Circa 1740 – 1760

This Rare Painted Queen Anne Tea Table, in Estate found condition, is a classic expression of rural Connecticut cabinetry. The top overhangs with a molded edge and shaped carved detail at its four corners instead of the more typical tray top with applied molded edge. The top seems to float over the boldly scalloped skirt with graceful curves as they continue to the cabriole legs. The slightly pointed knees of curved cabriole legs sweep downward terminating in pad feet. The combined features show the sensitivity and artistry of this cabinetmaker. All the above design elements are highlighted by its “ as found original ” red paint dry surface.

The tea table’s form is distinctive to New England. This rural cabinet shop was obviously familiar with the latest fashions as it demonstrates the parallels in design between Conn River Valley furniture and its urban mahogany counterparts. This Tea Table is an impressive statement of American rural cabinetwork with visual satisfaction which is proportioned to its stature.

It is our pleasure to be able to offer this Rare Painted Queen Anne Tea Table.

Vestiges of time one leg broken near top – one side skirt split – top leg block replaced (note image)
