FEDERAL / SHERATON CARD TABLE
New Hampshire
Circa 1800

A Federal Card Table having a serpentine front with elliptic sides. The card table has a hinged top with outset corners having a patterned central inlay within the edge above a conforming mahogany veneer frame. The facade is divided into a triple panel with string inlay borders. A flame birch veneer central panel is flanked by plum pudding mahogany veneer panels and the sides apron also having mahogany veneer panels. The legs have turrets on the front corners, which are veneered birch panels surrounded with string inlay. The bottom of the apron which continue around the leg and along the side has a patterned inlay. All the above is supported by finely carved ring-turned tapered reeded legs terminating in swelled and tapered feet. The table’s use of simple lines with figured veneering, the use of interesting inlaid elements and its refined turned legs contributed to this Card Table as a desirable piece from the Federal Period.

Overall fine condition with minor imperfections.

Good color with old surface to base.
