CHIPPENDALE TEA TABLE
PROBABLY IRISH – Circa 1760 – 1780
The cabinet shop’s fine craftsmanship is shown in this Fine Quality Tilt Top Tea Table. It has a one-piece top that sits on a four pillar birdcage action above a beautifully carved spiral vase, stylized knee & leg carving terminating to the finely sculptured claw and ball feet. All these elements blend into an integrated composition of visible pleasure.
The contribution of immigrant Irish craftsman is clearly related to American Furniture in its design. The quality of the carving to this piece is very fine, deep and well defined. The mahogany is of the best quality. All indicating a rather prominent cabinetmaker. A sense of grace prevails in this Fine Chippendale Tea Table and would be a fine addition to anyone’s American Furniture Collection.
Condition very Good. Wear consistent with age.
