FINE MOLDED COPPER RAM WEATHERVANE
American – Circa: 20th ( 1st thru 2nd quarter )
A wonderful hollow molded copper Ram Weathervane. The ram’s folk art version has wonderful form and dimensional quality that is enhanced with attached hollow soldered curling horns and legs, as well as, a rippled hammered copper body simulating fleece. Ram weathervanes are incredibly rare especially in this condition with a original weathered patina surface.
The sheep form weathervanes were common on barns in New England because the rocky terrain was conducive to sheep ranching, as well as, often seen on woolen mills along New England’s rivers, reflecting an era when New England led the world in wool manufacturing.
