FEDERAL / HEPPLEWHITE INLAID SIDEBOARD
Circa 1780 – 1800
Massachusetts

In America, during the last quarter of the Eighteenth Century the sideboard was developed as a new form of furniture. The beauty of this well proportioned sideboard includes not only its small scale but the cabinetmakers selection of woods that compliment its artful inlay decorations.
Conforming to the case there is a inlaid edge to the top and lower edge of the frame. Striking contrast of color and pattern are distinguished in the working drawers and the flanking cupboard doors each fitted with string and oval-panel inlays. The four large figured maple inlays are visually pleasing as they highlight against the panels of figured mahogany. Probably as a special order, the cabinetmaker has incorporated within the upper leg case construction contracting inlays, a overlapping husk pattern which is above the classic interpretation of a stemmed wine glass. Completing the sideboards composition is its six tall tapered legs having string inlay terminating to banded cuffs with tapered feet.

It is a pleasure to be able to offer this estate found sideboard
in antique condition consistent with age.
A Fine Quality Hepplewhite Inlaid Sideboard that would enhance anyone’s home.
