The Bear Kachina sometimes known as the Bear Dancer Kachina, represents great power – both in physical strength and wisdom. The Bear Kachina is of such great strength and gentle nature in spirit that the Kachina also lends the ability to cure and aid the sick. Despite its great power, the Bear Kachina truly symbolizes balance, beauty, strength and compassion.

Kachina’s were made primarily to illustrate symbols and symbolic paraphernalia used in the personation of the gods, a form of artistic expression. The Kachina represent mortal men personifying the gods as seen in festivals or ceremonies. The Kachina’s are spirits of the ancients a supernatural responsible for a wide variety of religious and social activities. The artist has effectively combined color and feather with the physical form and stance of the dancer.
