CLASSICAL CARVED CANDLE STAND

Circa 1820 – 1830

The design of this handsome mahogany candle stand provides a reference to the stylish refinement of the New York cabinetmakers of the American Classical Period. The oblong tilting top has shaped rounded corners above a acanthus-carved baluster form standard. This is accommodating three down swept legs, each fully carved with water leafs over the hocked knees, as well as, down the hairy carved legs. The legs terminate to carved animal paw feet on castors. This Choice Example is a hard to find form for the Classical period.
