SCARCE VINTAGE BATTLE AXE TOBACCO CUTTER – ROGERS IRON CO.

Circa Early 1900’s

Iron tobacco cutter (Battle Axe tobacco brand) Cast in the bottom of the cutting board The Rogers Iron Co, Springfield, O. Rogers Iron Co. The company was only in business under that name between 1895-1907.

According to the book DISCOVERING THE MYSTERIES OF ANCIENT AMERICA, few of these Battle Axe Tobacco Cutters have survived. “after having outlived their usefulness as plug tobacco cutters, they were removed from the hinged attachment to a cutting board and used as hatchets… some were reportedly popular for decapitating chickens!”

Cast iron with a replaced wooden handle. It is in good condition with wonderful patina. No repairs. Traces of original stenciling on the axe and the label on the cutting board are still visible.
