ANTIQUE BRASS and IRON FIREPLACE TRIVET
England
Late 18th Early 19th Century

This is a very good example of a brass and wrought iron fireplace trivet. Hand cut and engraved cast brass plate mounted on hand forged iron tripod base with turned-wooden handle. The tall profile of tripod base and its plate piercing with engraved motifs, depicting a central shamrock surrounded by flowers, leaves and thistles, are a added attraction making this wonderful trivet highly decorative.

All early homes were equipped with trivets as they were essential cooking tools for heating tea and cooking over an open fire. Today they are primarily used as either a fireplace accent or plant stand.
