NAIVE AMERICAN FOLK WINTER LANDSCAPE
Found in New York State
Circa 1850 – 1880
A Naive Imaginary winter landscape, In the manner of Thomas Chambers (American, 1808–1869). Like many early American artists, this artwork was probably inspired from a etching or engraving. A country road in the foreground with a young couple as they stroll toward a castel type house. Above is a brilliant clear sky were bold and vibrant storm clouds have passed by and now in the distance above a homestead and forest. Stiff barren trees and foliage are above a river bed, all together, creating a composition with a romantic style. The artists imagination reflects a playful sense of folk aesthetics.
