WOODEN SEWING THREAD HOLDER DISPENSER
Attributed to S. Silliman & Co.
Chester Connecticut
Circa 1850
A rare, circular turned wooden thread or spool holder with pin cushion. An interesting two part design with its original grain painted finish applied with gilt stenciled hearts and ivy decoration. The eight stenciled decorations are the location for dispensing (where you would bring the thread through for use). Interior is exposed with a fitted lift-off cover lid having its original pin cushion top in center. The interior is fitted with eight cylindrical holders for spools with holes as eyelet surrounding a larger diameter compartment in the middle for holding small sewing items such as pincushions, needles, thimbles and buttons.
S. Silliman & Co. were known nationwide for their wooden inkstands and inkwells they also manufactured a variety and different objects. This rare wooden thread holder dispenser was probably a special order.
Wooden dispenser and its painted surface are in excellent condition.
No repairs or restorations.
