CHIPPENDALE TILT-TOP TEA TABLE
Possibly North Carolina
Circa 1760 – 1790
During the Chippendale Period, the design of this tea table found favor throughout the eastern seaboard. A 18th century form that was extremely popular among the wealthily. There are examples which can be seen in small folding tables as well as the larger tripod tea tables. The table’s small size allowed it to be moved throughout a house as needed. As a utilitarian piece of furniture, the table could have been used for a variety of purposes, serving tea, or to hold candlesticks, books, decanters and wine glasses.
Excellent condition – no restorations, retains an early, if not, original surface.
