SMALL SCALE BURL BOWL with PIERCED HANDLES
Eastern Woodlands Indians / Great Lakes Area
Circa 1785-1810
A wonderful scarce small scale burl bowl featuring an elliptical form with sides continuing into ends that show a squared off top over rectangular open work handles. The outside of the bowl shows a rounded exterior continuing into a flat bottom.
The form and design support an origin with the Native Americans of the Great Lakes area. This18th, early 19th Century, possibly the Iroquois or Ojibwa, bowl has beautiful form and design. Shows some age and use wear. No cracks. Close examination shows slight remnants of a red paint.
The fine quality wooden bowl commands special attention to its tight grained burl ash, light weight and sculptural design which are seldom encountered in Double-Handled Burl Bowls of this Scarce Small Scale.
