VINTAGE NATIVE INUIT
SOAPSTONE SCULPTURE
20th Century
The traditional elements of NATIVE INUIT SCULPTURE are present in this Fine Example. The soapstone has beautiful shades and many variations in color that adds to the carved details.
This Fine Quality Sculpture has a handsome presence that is heightened by deep carved contrasts. Carving is a well detailed indigenous soapstone statue a young lady. The carver has created a past moment of time. Carving only the essence of form, that clings to a forgotten time within the Arctic Regions. It is a superlative work of art that is excellent in design execution retaining a wonderful original patina. The Eskimo moon shaped face has a wonderful folk appeal.
The wonderful sculpture ( whose carver has not yet been identified ) was personal, strong and a unspoiled impression. Today, the true Inuit Tradition is a important part of our American Folk Art.
