RARE GILDED “ARCHER” CENTAUR WEATHERVANE
American – 20th Century
( After – A. L. Jewell & Company, Waltham, Mass. )
The vanes dramatic silhouette portrays a Centaur, a race of mythological beasts that were half human & half horse. Original gilded molded copper weathervane with sheet copper tail, the bow and arrow are thick metal wire. The centaur’s swell body is drawing a bow and arrow modeled with a pierced eye. The hollow body form has wonderfully delineated lines, beautiful form and true folk art appearance.
Mythology weathervanes are some of the most imaginative and unusual design subjects. This is a prime example that is highly sought after among collectors.
