PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK
England
Circa 1810 – 1830
A whimsical artistically arranged pictorial embroidery that depicts a mammoth pig with two young boys. A very charming and humorous subject. The spotted pig is being taunted by boys (possibly twins) surrounded with foliage and trees. This early 19th-century black embroidery is in running and stem stitches on plain weave foundation. The boy’s face, hair and hands are finely drawn in graphite. A small pictorial embroidery is under a reverse-painted glass and gilded mat all enclosed in a period gilt frame.
Very good antique condition.
No restorations – exhibiting the wear and patina associated with its age.
Note images for detailed examination.
