PAINTED CANDLESTAND
CONNECTICUT
Circa 1780 – 1800
This is a most unusual Candlestand. The inventiveness of design and use of cherry indicate a Connecticut origin. There is a eccentric combination of turnings in the shaft. Top of legs has a shaped stepped carving terminating to fluted knees ending in interesting ribbed pad feet. The high lifting legs are inserted into base of pillar dovetail fashion with no brace. Note the original unusual bolt construction in base.
A Very Fine Candlestand which is further fulfilled by its totally untouched disposition.
