NEO-CLASSICAL PIER TABLE
Pennsylvania
Circa 1815 – 1820

In keeping with that of the leading American Cabinetmakers of the first quarter of the 19th century, this is a beautifully designed Pier Table. The quality of the cabinetwork is excellent with various details that are incorporated.

This professionally refurbished pier table is of unusual large scale boasting artistic value. Forward are freestanding columns supporting the tables skirt. These wonderful columns begin with acanthus carved tops following to a tapering reverse rope turning that terminates downward to a ball collar above animal paw feet. At the back are parallel double pilasters on each side of the mirror. Below its original marble top, the skirt has a large carved central panel flanked by end panels with acanthus carvings. Turned feet lift the whole piece and are below a incurve shelf that breaks out under the animal paw feet of the columns.

Adding to the success of the whole design is both the masterful selection of richly figured mahogany and painted wood surfaces. A Fine Quality Pier Table in the fashionable Neo-Classical taste that would enhance any collection.
