MARBLE TOP MIXING TABLE / MINT JULEP TABLE
Pennsylvania / Baltimore
Circa 1835-1840

A uniquely American furniture form, Mixing Table / Mint Julep Cabinet, made possibly for the southern trade in either Pennsylvania or Baltimore. Flame and solid mahogany portrays a kinetic pattern to its mahogany case. The black marble top insert, stylized cabinet base with gothic arched paneled door is all resting on scrolled feet.

It is believed that the basic design was inspired by designs for “Pedestals for Sideboard Tables” (pl. LXVI) and “Pedestal Sideboard and Wine Cooler” (pl. LXXV) in George Smith’s “The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Guide” (London, 1828), a popular design directory.

Used primarily in formal dining areas for storage within cabinet and serving on marble top.

Very good Estate found condition – Original Egyptian marble – Wonderful mahogany veneers.
