As can be seen in this fine quality sideboard, the New York Cabinetmaker’s expert craftsmanship and a sensitive eye to design has created a well proportioned small scale classical sideboard that would enhance anyone’s home.
In America, during the last quarter of the eighteenth century the sideboard was developed as a new form of furniture. With the emergence of new found wealth, Americans were building homes with dining room as a specialized room for eating. The sideboard not only was a beautiful piece of furniture it served many needs, storage for silver, china, glassware and beverages. The sideboard furnished ample surface area and the wealthy used it as a staging and display area for their elaborate dining. The introduction of the American sideboard gave the new found rich a way to display their wealth.
