CHIPPENDALE SERPENTINE CHEST

Circa 1775

A Fine Chippendale Mahogany Serpentine Front Chest of Drawers displaying an old surface which has been rubbed out. This refurbished chest features extraordinary figured mahogany in the top and its matched drawer fronts. The top, is attached with a sliding dovetail, having thumbnail molding at the front and sides, overhanging the case on all sides and is shaped in conformity with the serpentine case. The case holds four graduated serpentine drawers cut from the solid each is outlined by cock beading on the case as well as on the molding on the drawer dividers. There is base molding at the front and sides, and the chest is supported by four carved ogee bracket feet.

The choice construction materials, refined proportions and a generous overhang of the top are all indicative of a quality cabinet shop. A strong Chippendale statement is accurately and handsomely detailed in this Fine Quality Serpentine Chest.
