FANCY FOLK ART SEWING BASKET

Circa 19thCentury

Fancy folk art sewing basket freehand polychrome paint decorated to include miniature panels on either end. Each panel is depicting a North Berwick local scene. Sides are mounted with grain painted canvas pockets. Bowed Handle has painted in script “Marcia” on top surrounded with line decoration. On base of handle on either side have a delightful painted urn of flowers. Top supporting rim of basket is paint decorated on its side and top along with some applied gold foil. Interior of basket has two velvet pin cushions over a grain pained interior having a attached ribbon and spool supports.

A most unusual utilitarian basket. Within the painted decorations upon this basket lies a reflection of the imagination an rural interpretation of Ada Ann Chadbourne. As a piece with Maine providence, it is our pleasure to offer this Fine Fancy Folk Art Sewing Basket.
