Native American – Ojibwa – Box
North of Great Lakes
Circa late 19th – early 20th Century
Superbly crafted porcupine quilled on birch bark covered box. The surface of this box has a wonderful quill decoration to include floral and hearts on a unusual hexagon form. Round and oval lidded boxes are more frequently found. Great Lakes Native Americans, a distinctive aspect of Ojibwa, crafted birchbark quill work generally resembling that of the Northern Woodlands, but the Ojibwa craft was more refined in this art.
