HEPPLEWHITE PAINT DECORATED TABLE
New England
Circa 1790 – 1815
The cabinetmaker of this rural pembroke table has used a paint – decorated surface to imitate a finer urban example. Using only wood ingentious to the cabinetmaker, this artisan choose to do a grain painted decoration on the drop leaf top and a solid painted surface to its base. The combination of both technics were intended to imitate a more exotic urban wood, therefore improving and enhancing the nature of this rural table. A fine example of original painted decorated American furniture.
